Weekly roundup
Hey Parents! 👋
We have finally strung together a few days without rain, and I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to get back outside after what felt like weeks of being cooped up. Good news, this weekend is loaded with reasons to do exactly that. Baseball, hikes, fishing, live music, and a community bash are all on the calendar, with a few sunny days lined up before the storms try to sneak back in.

Whether your child is a seasoned fisher or has never baited a hook before, the rodeo creates an encouraging environment where every cast counts as a small victory. Bring your own basic fishing gear. This is an ideal outing for elementary-aged kids who are curious about the outdoors but might not be ready for a full day of wilderness fishing.

Hike at Green Mountain South
Green Mountain Nature Preserve (Alum Hollow Trailhead)
Explore both natural beauty and local history on a moderate 2.1-mile hike that winds through the preserve to Alum Falls and a historic rock shelter. The hike meets at 9:00 AM at the Alum Hollow Trailhead on South Shawdee Road and takes around two hours to complete. Most of the trail is relatively easy, but be prepared for a steep descent about halfway through as you approach the waterfall and shelter—this section requires careful footing, especially for younger hikers. Plan to sign up in advance, as organizers will send an email if weather or trail conditions force a cancellation.
What to expect: A moderate, beautiful 2.1-mile hike
Perfect for: Families with kids aged 6-14
Pro tip: Wear good hiking shoes, bring water, and snacks
Cost: FREE

💡 My Weekend Picks
If I had to narrow it down…
After School Bash - This one should be a blast! It is starting later in the day, so hopefully it will be a bit cooler. This should be fun, and you get an opportunity to give back and help Pack The Patrol Car.
Trash Pandas Baseball Game - I grew up playing baseball, so I love the chance to take in a baseball game. The whole experience at Toyota Field is amazing!
Concerts in The Park - I am pumped. Concerts In The Park has finally started back this year! We keep a picnic blanket in the SUV, and it is perfect for these concerts! The little one likes to dance, I like ice cream, and add in live music… this one is sure to please!
That’s it for this week.
📝 Before You Head Out:
The forecast is finally giving us a break. Friday and Saturday are looking mostly sunny with temperatures in the mid-80s, perfect weather for baseball, a morning hike, or an evening at Big Spring Park. Storms try to sneak back in on Sunday and Monday, so keep one eye on the radar if you’re heading out for Concerts in the Park.
If you do make it to any of these events, come say hi! I’ll be the dad at Big Spring Park, sneaking in “just one more scoop” of ice cream from the food trucks while my daughter dances circles around the picnic blanket.
Happy adventuring,
Ryan 🚀
