Since the venue already houses over 160 working artist studios, galleries, and performance spaces, families can easily extend their visit by exploring the indoor corridors if they arrive early or want to escape the heat—Lowe Mill's air-conditioned hallways are filled with working studios where artists often welcome visitors.
What to expect: This isn't your typical farmers market—you'll find everything from handcrafted jewelry and pottery to vintage treasures and fresh produce.

Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve
Families looking to combine outdoor adventure with meaningful conservation work will find a rewarding morning at Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve's Trail Care volunteer day. This hands-on opportunity lets kids ages 8 and up work alongside experienced Land Stewards to maintain the preserve's extensive trail system. Tasks vary depending on what the trails need most—whether clearing brush, repairing erosion, or improving trail markers—so each visit offers something different. It's a chance for children to see how regular maintenance keeps natural spaces accessible while learning about trail ecology and stewardship.
What to expect: Volunteers should prepare for a moderately active morning, potentially hiking up to 3 miles with elevation changes over 250 feet as you move between work sites. No previous trail maintenance experience is needed—the Land Stewards will teach you everything.
Perfect for: Families with older elementary and middle school kids who enjoy being outdoors and want to contribute to conservation efforts.
